Sam Made Featured on Got Craft Blog!

Read all about it! (or me, rather).

There's an interview with me posted on the Got Craft Blog. If you want to know my inner deepest secrets check it out (okay, that might be a bit of false advertising). If you want to know my perspectives on being a designer, check it out: Sam Made on Got Craft

In other blog news, I've started another blog: Post Grad Hair Cut is a blog more personal to my life if you want to check it out!

How Embarassing...

Well I'm back. My last post was nearly 4 months ago. Let me get everyone up-to-date. In the past four months I have:

- Graduated from university.
- Left my entry-level food service job.
- Been unemployed.
- Gone to Portland, OR.
- Gone on one five hour camping trip.
- Lost 30lbs.
- Cut my hair off.
- Applied for 50+ jobs with no interviews.
- Ate a bacon and maple doughnut.
- Designed a new bag.

I also spent countless hours online looking at amazing things and other people's blogs whilst telling myself I should blog more often.

New Bags in two sizes.
Maple Bacon Donut from Voodoo in Portland, OR.
A shot from our camping trip to Harrison that lasted 5 hours. It rained, if you hadn't already guessed.

Sam Made Jewelry

I've been interested in making jewelry for quite sometime but wasn't sure what angle to take and wanted to make something fairly unique. When I discovered the idea of painting on thrift store dishes with ceramic paint and firing them in the oven, I thought I could transfer the id to ceramic pendants. I found a woman who makes unfinished ceramic pendants and painted my own "field guide" inspired images on them.

Each pendant is hand-painted by me and strung on silver plated chain. The larger pendants are on 32" chains so they hang failry low and the smaller are on 20" chains.

I will be debuting this collection along with my bags at Got Craft on Sunday May 3rd at 2205 Commercial Drive (the Royal Legion at 6th ave). The show is from 11-5, see www.gotcraft.ca for more details. The necklaces should be available online as of the middle of May.

Got Craft? Swag!

Just finished my swag for Got Craft? I had a lot of fun with it this time and they include all sorts of things I like to work with or find inspiration from such as lace, baker's twine on mini spools, kraft boxes and manilla envelopes! Be one of the first 30 to arrive at Got Craft? on May 3rd and you will be the lucky recipient of one of my swag as well as items from all the other vendors!

Hope to see you there!

The best laid plans of mice and men (and sam) often go awry...

I have so many ideas bustling around in my mind and yet every attempt I make at bringing them into fruition leaves me disappointed. I think the problem may lay in the feeling that I don't have enough time and I need to rush rush rush through my projects. This is something I hope to overcome once finally finish my degree (one month to go) and my mind is less divided by the multiply things I have to do (creative and not). Hmm hmm hmm...

Anyway this is what I tried to work on today for my upcoming craft fair but I am very unhappy with the outcome.

Oh My Gelato!

So recently we've been tucking in quite nicely at the gelato place a couple blocks from our house. It is such a delicious treat and with our entertainment book coupons (and those taken from the books of several family members) we can enjoy sweet sweet gelato at very convenient prices (what more could one ask for as summer approaches?).

However. We have now discovered the behemoth of all gelato places. La Casa Gelato (1033 Venables st. Vancouver) boasts 218+ flavours in the most whimsical cotton candy coloured restaurant one could ever hope for. I mean you pay for your cone first and they give you a poker chip that indicates the size of your impending delicious treat. Not to mention you get to sample all you want with those delightful brightly coloured mini shovels. If you find yourself in East Vancouver, you must check it out (you can't miss the bright pink building). Even Martha Stewart is a fan!

I cannot contain my excitement for...

A hefty spool of red and white baker's twine

'mt' Paper Masking Tape from Japan

I suppose part of the charm of the postal system is having to wait for the arrival of your packages!

If anyone is interested in purchasing some yardage of the baker's twine, let me know!
